Rea began producing MagneFlex with its acquisition of the Ashland, Virginia, plant in 2001. The Ashland plant currently has multiple insulating lines and rewind lines and was Rea’s only manufacturing location for MagneFlex until the Lafayette, Indiana, plant installed and started up its first line in 2018.
Due to increasing market demand, Rea invested in Lafayette earlier this year to serve this growing market and will add additional lines by the end of 2025. The Lafayette team took on this challenge and delivered with on-time installation and a safe start up. They are now currently working on process and changeover improvements and improved training programs for new operators.
About MagneFlex
MagneFlex features predominantly aluminum conductors in round or shaped forms insulated with a high temperature engineered resin (Poly Phenyl Sulfone) with a thermal class of 200 Celsius. The advanced polymer coatings have been very successful in transformer applications, and Rea has been a long-term supplier to this market. MagneFlex is mostly found in pad mount transformers.
